Description
The Yukon River is the longest river in the Yukon and Alaska and third longest in North America. The river travels northwest from the Coastal Range mountains in British Columbia and through the Yukon Territory and Alaska before feeding into the Bering Sea. At the time of the Klondike Gold Rush, the Yukon River was the main form of transportation, which was done by paddle-wheel riverboats. This form of transportation was the only way to reach Dawson City, the heart of the Klondike Gold Rush, until the 1950s when the Klondike Highway between Whitehorse and Dawson City was completed.
Dome Mountain is a must-see when visiting Dawson City, Yukon, in Canada. Also called the Midnight Dome, it is the one spot where during the summer solstice the sun appears to set when it drops behind a mountain for a short period of time. In the summer, this is the land of the midnight sun. From the top of Dome Mountain you can enjoy a view of the Yukon River, Ogilvie Mountain Range, and Klondike Valleys.
